Sacrament of Marriage

“Today, there are those who say that marriage is out of fashion. Is it out of fashion? In a culture of relativism and the ephemeral, many preach the importance of ‘enjoying’ the moment. They say that it is not worth making a life-long commitment, making a definitive decision, ‘forever’, because we do not know what tomorrow will bring. I ask you, instead, to be revolutionaries, I ask you to swim against the tide; yes, I am asking you to rebel against this culture that sees everything as temporary and that ultimately believes you are incapable of responsibility, that believes you are incapable of true love. I have confidence in you and I pray for you.”

Pope Francis (Address to World Youth Day volunteers, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 28th, 2013)

Please make an appointment to meet the priest to arrange your wedding to discuss it. Even before you contact a wedding coordinator this is a good thing to do. Marriage in the Church is sacred and blessed moment and it only requires two people who love one another. Much of what has become associated with ‘a wedding’ is  unnecessary and overly expensive. Often people feel they can’t get married because they can’t afford it – it doesn’t have to be this way – so please talk to us before you start your preparations.

There are a number of important elements in the Marriage Preparation:

Civil Registration – This is the duty of the couple to inform the Civil Authorities of their intention to marry when you live in Ireland or abroad.

Church Registration – The couple have to meet with the local priest (regardless of where the wedding takes place) in the parish they are domicile to prepare the necessary paper work for the ceremony.

Ceremony and Marriage – The more preparation the couple make the greater the impact on them and those who gather with them. This aspect of the marriage is supported by a Pre – Marriage Course, choice of readings and vows and meetings with the celebrant.

Marriage Ceremony – Toa void disappointment please book the Church in good time.

(Over the next few months we will develop links to some of the supports services for Marriage registration and Preparation)
