Newsletter Feast of All Saints

1st of November

CHURCH CLOSURE: Last mass will be held on Sunday 8th of November at 11.30am.  Information on mass arrangements as follows:

Due to refurbishment work taking place on The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, City Quay, the building will close after the 11.30am Mass on Sunday the 8th of November 2026 for up to twelve months.

During this period the following Masses will be celebrated in 7/8 City Quay.: 11.30 am Sunday Morning, Tuesday - Friday 8 am, and the rosary will be recited Mon-Fri 12 noon. The temporary chapel will open for services and will not be available for private prayer.

The 6pm mass on Saturday evening is cancelled for the duration and people are asked to attend Westland Row for the 6.30pm Vigil Mass instead.

The Parish Pastoral Council have deliberated on these matters for quite over the last few months and having looked at all the options they believe that these temporary solutions are the best ones to adopt.

During the refurbishment process the Church Courtyard will be closed thus there will be no car parking spaces.

Many of you remember the weekly envelope collection which supports parish expenses but which is very labour intensive and it is difficult to find volunteers. We are asking people to consider taking out a standing order to support the parish. Donations can be increased to the benefit of the parish through a revenue charity tax rebate scheme. This scheme is available on donations of €250 or more in a calendar year.  A €250donation is worth an extra €112.50 (a total value of €362.50) to the charity, calculated at a grossed-up rate of 31%.  For copy of the form please call or email the parish office at info@cityquayparish.com and drop the completed form into us after any of our masses. If you need assistance with this process both Bernie and Caroline in the parish office are happy to assist.  When the Church is refurbished our cash reserves will be greatly depleted and we need to establish regular income to keep the Church open and in good order

REMEMBERING: The Annual Mass to remember the deceased members of the parish will take place on Saturday the 7th of November at the 6pm Mass.

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD

(Psalm 4:7b-9)

Lift up the light of your face on us, O Lord.

You have put into my heart a greater joy

than abundance of grain and new wine can provide.

In peace I will lie down and fall asleep,

for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

—The Abbey Psalms and Canticles

November can be a month for mood swings, a tussle between sorrow and joy. The gathering darkness earlier in the afternoon jars us into reckoning that darker and colder times are unavoidable.

The November prayer is taken from Psalm 4, an individual’s song of lamentation. The plea, “Oh, that we might see better times,” leads into the heartfelt petition for the light of God’s face that begins the prayer. It is a blessing, too: “The Lord let his face shine upon you” (Num 6:25).

We remember the dead in November, embracing lingering melancholy from memories when they were physically present in lives while celebrating with gladness their presence with God in the communion of saints. In November, we, the living Church, rejoice with the Church triumphant. Autumn’s abundance of delightful foods and new wine do not bring greater joy than celebrating their presence with us in the fullness of communion with God, our peace and our safety.
